Cluck. Cluck. Prep and Year 1 Library

We had so much fun yesterday in the Art room/Library. Due to the fact that there has been some missed art classes over the last few weeks, I thought it would be a good idea to combine art and library classes for this week. We let the children borrow their books for the week and then we headed over to the art room with book in hand for inspiration. The book we chose was one called “A Chick Called Saturday”

Its a cute story about a hen and her 7 chicks named Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. It turns out that Saturday is a little bit more adventurous than the other chicks and gets up to all sorts of mischief and asks way too many questions for his mothers liking. In the end it turns out that Saturday is a little bit different than the other chicks for a very good reason… but I won’t ruin it for you, I will just let you figure it out by reading it on your own! You can hear the book online by following the link below.

We then went on to create our very own chickens and roosters! The kids did a great job and really got stuck in. The preps were extra fun, for me, because there were only 4 students yesterday so we were able to have a great chat and I was able to be very hands on with all of them to get the project done in one class. See if you can spot the chickens in the pictures below!!

Now I must confess that I do not have pictures of the year 1 chickens as of yet. With the bigger class, a lot of glue, tape, feathers, buttons and pipecleaners were flying everywhere and I did not have time to be a photographer. When I get back down to the Junior Campus I will take some pictures of the finished product and add them to this blog post.
