1s and 2s – Look what they can do!

The year ones and twos have been hard at work as well over the last few weeks both in their classrooms and in the library. Our first focus was on non-fiction picture books. Most children (and adults) think of picture books as works of fiction, but they can actually be true stories written for children (or adults like myself who just love picture story books).

The book we used as an example was “Balloons Over Broadway.” The story of a  little boy with an inventive mind who ended up inventing the giant balloons that fly in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade each year in New York City.

If you would like to see the book, visit this link: Balloons Over Broadway.

We then used this as a springboard to each class to create their own non-fiction story book about their favourite places on the junior campus. Our final goal for these stories is for them to make their way down to ELC so that the Piccino students can gain an appreciation for the beautiful grounds they will be able to spend lots of time exploring next year.

See below for links to view their stories digitally via the Story Creator App. (Unfortunately this is an Apple based App for those of you running Android, Windows etc).
